Why Zurich is the ideal location for our Headquarters

The Numbrs Headquarters is based in Zurich. Switzerland’s largest city is one of the most liveable in the world. With a global reputation, cultural and scenic diversity, a dynamic economy, stability, safety, excellent transport links and unspoiled natural beauty, Zurich offers many advantages to our employees.

Tradition meets innovation

Zurich was once considered a buttoned-up banking city and remains a global financial centre attracting multinational corporations and other large enterprises (Google’s largest engineering office in Europe is located here). But the city shed its stuffed shirt reputation a long time ago. Today, Zurich boasts with a hip arts districtgroovy nightlife, barsgreat restaurants and is home to the Street Parade, the world’s biggest techno party, attracting nearly a million people to the shores of Lake Zurich every August.

The Altstadt, or Old Town, is bisected by the river, and its tidy cobblestone streets are lined with medieval buildings and Gothic church spires. Many of them lead into Bahnhofstrasse, the main shopping street, considered the most expensive in Europe, where traditional banks like UBS and Credit Suisse also have their headquarters. The University of Zurich and the ETH (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) are renowned institutions of higher education.

Diverse city life

With its large international community, Zurich is multicultural and home to people from all over the world. German is the most widely spoken language by the native residents, but it is also common to communicate in English, French and several other languages. The city offers great public transportation facilities, including a busy international airport.

Close proximity to nature

Not surprisingly, Zurich locals like to spend their weekends around the nearby mountainscape. During winter, many of them like to ski in the canton of Graubünden, in towns like Lenzerheide, about an hour and a half from Zurich, and in the upper and lower Engadine valley, in villages such as St. Moritz and Scuol.

The city sits on the north point of the sparkling blue Lake Zürich, where it flows into the Limmat river, and during summer residents and office workers flock to the river’s swimming spots, as well as to the beaches by the lake. Temperatures can exceed 25 °C during summer and the lake and swimming pools provide opportunities for refreshment.

Located in the heart of Europe

Zurich’s Central European location means that France, Germany and Austria are around an hour away by train or car, Italy not much more than that, whilst a journey to London takes less than a two-hour flight. It’s roughly 10 hours to Beijing and eight to New York.

Zurich was awarded as the second-best city in the world for overall quality of life by the 2017 Mercer Quality of Living survey. Based on 39 criteria, the renowned consulting firm Mercer examined 320 major cities. Aspects examined included leisure and recreation, safety, cleanliness, political and economic stability, as well as medical care.

The combination of these factors makes Zurich one of the most attractive global cities for both living and working and our decision to base our headquarters here was a conscious one. Whilst the city’s excellent business environment and international atmosphere make it an ideal hub for a digital fintech company like Numbrs, its impressive quality of life, culture spots and many scenic getaway opportunities ensure that our employees live and work in a setting that exceeds their needs.
