Update to new EU Data Protection Regulation and what it means for Numbrs users

Numbrs is committed to helping all users manage their personal finances in the simplest and most secure way.

In order to give our users a strong sense of security, we provide them with information on topics regarding topics such as privacy, cybersecurity and the protection of personal data in a transparent manner. Data protection and privacy laws and regulations are also part of this. For this reason, we would like to inform our users about the new EU data protection regulation with this article.

The General Data Protection Regulation comes into force 25 May 2018. Its aim is to provide users with additional rights and protection. Numbrs supports any initiative that is designed to protect the data of our users. The law introduces uniform application of data protection laws in all EU member states. The law is applicable to any and all businesses offering goods or services in the EU, such as through their website or through an app. Being a Swiss company with users in Germany and the UK, Numbrs is required to comply with the regulation.

Nothing new for us: ‘privacy by design’ and ‘privacy by default’

The General Data Protection Regulation explicitly requires data processing systems to be designed with the relevant data protection principles in mind from very beginning (privacy by design), for example, through the pseudo-anonymisation of personal data. Furthermore, solely data is required for the provision of our services is to be collected (privacy by default).

From the beginning, Numbrs pseudonymised the data of its users. Beyond that, we apply a clear design language to indicate which security settings can be selected from in the app. Users can, for example, freely choose whether they wish to add their PIN to the Numbrs app.

Please find more information about how Numbrs secures your data within our Security Whitepaper here.

Such security measures described are incorporated at all stages of the development of the Numbrs App, starting from the earliest conceptualisation stage to regular app updates. As such, these measures are not solely carried out by our dedicated security team but are part of our overall company strategy and culture.

What are the next steps?

Numbrs has been committed to ensuring safety of its user data with the help of leading security and data protection technologies designed to safeguard personal information and ensure a bug-free user experience from day one. In doing so, Numbrs welcomes the new EU Data Protection Regulation and will continue to do everything to keep user data safe.
